Patient: a 60-year-old adult with sudden sensory neural hearing loss

This patient suffered a sudden hearing loss.  She complained of ‘buzzing’ sound in the ears and had a serious rhinitis.

Hearing test showed that her right ear had a severe hearing loss.

She couldn’t hear on the phone and thus communicate well.

This problem should be taken care of as early as possible so we can expect higher recoverableness. This is the result of pure-tone audiometry result before and after the treatment.

We conducted a pure-tone audiometry: it let the patient hear sounds, from low to high, by frequency and let him  find the lowest audible sound. The numbers mean the volumes of sound, so a smaller number means a better hearing.

In general, the numbers below 40 mean audible sound and those below 20 indicate normal hearing with no difficulty communicating in daily life.

 

We can see 500 and 1000, which are important for conversation has improved down to 20.

Before the treatment, the patient couldn’t communicate on her left ear on the line, but can now after the treatment.

Patient: a 10-year-old boy with hearing loss

This patient has hearing loss. In this case, both rhinitis and hearing loss should be treated together, so better result can be expected from the treatment than adults.

This is the result of pure-tone audiometry after a single treatment.

 

Pure-tone audiometry is a test that a patient hears a minimum audible sound. A smaller number means a better hearing.

This result shows a surprising number reduction (improvement) for all the frequencies on the hearing of the left ear.

The child says he can hear well now.

Usually sudden hearing loss occurs when you wake up after sleeping.

The most common cause is stress, and circulatory disturbance is often assumed to be a cause.

 

 

The patient is in a situation where they can not hear after sleeping, so they are very surprised and worry about their life.

 

 

Especially, in cases where one ear was already impaired and the other ear has sudden hearing loss like the case below, the patient becomes even more surprised.

 

 

When puretone audiometry is performed, if it is measured at more than 40 decibels per frequency,

communication is impossible and there is almost no hearing. The bigger the number, the worse the hearing is.

Treatment for right side sudden hearing loss that has lasted for 1 year

Sudden hearing loss is a sudden hearing loss and tinnitus, usually due to stress.

The usual treatment for sudden hearing loss is taking a lot of steroids, which have many side effects and a low success rate.

In this way, 60% of patients do not improve even after being treated.

This patient came in Cheong-Min Clinic for sudden hearing loss that has lasted for 1 year.

At the time of the onset of the disease 1 year ago, he/she was admitted to a university hospital for steroids treatment but did not have any improvement.

He/she was treated only once at Cheong-Min Clinic.

 

 

Right side pure tone audiometry showed a 5~15 decibel improvement.

The speech discrimination score was checked as well.

 

 

19 points before the treatment and showing clear improvement to 32 points after the treatment.

Treatment for tinnitus and hearing loss that lasted for 10 years at Cheong-Min Clinic

 

The patient came in for hearing loss and various sounds in the ear.

He/She said it occurred due to stress.

Rhinitis and deviated nasal septum were also treated together.

This is the result after hearing treatment at our clinic.

 

On the right side, you can see that the right low frequency and medium frequency, which are involved in daily conversation, have improved by 10~15 decibels or more.

The patient came in 3 years ago due to sudden hearing loss after sleeping.

The patient said he/she currently uses a hearing aid on the left side, but he/she can not hear even with a hearing aid.

He/she had some dizziness.

He/She have had an eardrum injection at another hospital.

The above patient showed significant improvement in only 2 treatments.

The patient said he/she can hear better!!!

After treatment, the hearing aid sounded too loud, so he/she decided to reduce the hearing aid volume.

 

 

The speech discrimination score was checked as well.

(It is to check if the patient can discriminate the meaning of the word after listening to the loudest sound he/she can hear comfortably.

In their 60’s, tinnitus for many years, Cheong-Min Clinic regenerative therapy

This patient came in for tinnitus (ear ringing) which lasted for many years.

Suspected blood circulation disorder and also rhinitis.

The tinnitus on the right is particularly severe, and there is hearing impairment on both sides.

A speech discrimination test was done.

(A speech discrimination test lets the subject hear the uttermost volume within a comfortable level and match the meaning of words.

For the speech discrimination score, there is a slight difference between researchers, but generally, more than 6 changes are regarded as meaningful changes out of the tolerance range.

There was a significant improvement in a patient before treatment of 30 to 37 after treatment.

My tinnitus and hearing impairment, which made me ask for people to repeat themselves, got better after treatment at Cheong-Min Clinic.

This patient had buzzing tinnitus and hearing impairment that lasted for 5 years as well as dizziness.

When using a cell phone, his/her ears hurt.

He/she was exposed to a loud noise.

We performed puretone audiometry after 2 nerve regeneration treatments.

At 6K (6,000 hertz), 35 before the treatment -> 25 after the treatment, improvement of 10 decibels

At 8K (8,000 hertz), 45 before the treatment -> 30 after the treatment, improvement of 15 decibels

Left side

At 6K(6,000hertz), 60 before the treatment–> 50 after the treatment, improvement of 10 decibels

This patient’s speech discrimination score increased from 33 points to 39 points before treatment.

This kind of tinnitus can only be improved if hearing impairment gets better.

In fact, this patient’s tinnitus has been reduced.

The patient was treated at the Cheong-Min Clinic for tinnitus, hearing impairment, and the need for people to repeat themselves that had lasted for 5 years.

The patient is in late 30s.

He/she constantly asked people to repeat themselves due to tinnitus and hearing impairment for about 5 years.

You can see that the number was reduced by 15 in 6K and 8K after treatment compared to before treatment.

This means there was a hearing improvement of 15 decibels.
